The Lincoln University Council has confirmed the reappointment of Professor Grant Edwards as Vice-Chancellor of Lincoln University for a further five-year term, to the end of 2031.

Lincoln University Chancellor, Janice Fredric, said the Council reached its decision following a review of the University’s progress and future direction.

“Professor Edwards has led Lincoln University through a period of significant challenge and change for the tertiary sector, while maintaining a clear focus on the University’s role as New Zealand’s specialist land-based university,” she said.

Since 2019, Lincoln University has increased domestic enrolments and rebuilt international enrolments following the pandemic, with student numbers now exceeding 5,400. The University has also expanded postgraduate study and continued investment in campus facilities and learner support programmes.

During Professor Edwards’ tenure, Lincoln University has strengthened partnerships with industry, government, research organisations and international institutions, including the establishment of the Joint Institute with Huazhong Agricultural University.

Ms Fredric said the Council considered continuity of leadership important as the University continues to implement its strategic direction and respond to ongoing changes across the tertiary sector.
